CD REVIEW: Kieskagato – “you, are the one, who can.”
By Stacey Board - 05/24/2004 - 05:58 PM EDT

Artist: Kieskagato
Album: “you- are the one- who can.”
CD Review: To give you an initial pointer, I would call Kiesdagato’s music a mix between Calexico and Rufus Wainright. There is lovely keyboard sweetness, tangy horns, interesting lyrics and it all works.

The music is the point. The lyrics are merely signposts for Josh’s wafting dreamlike vocals. Kieskagato is a collection of musicians with a curiosity to experiment, the courage to try it and the chops to pull it off. Each song is an unexpected and unpredictable trip to somewhere you haven’t been before.

The songs are not so clever or precocious that they are inaccessible. They do challenge your ear if you’ve been on a steady diet of spoon fed radio pop but they challenge you in a good way.

The Rhodes and the horns are a special standout to my ear. This is an excellent CD with far better than average songwriting and musicianship. These gentlemen deserve to go far and I highly recommend giving this CD a listen.
