CD REVIEW: Escape From Earth - "Three Seconds East - 5 Song EP"
By Gian Fiero - 04/20/2004 - 01:44 AM EDT
Artist: Band: Escape From Earth
Album: Three Seconds East - 5 Song EP
CD Review:
Genre: Rock Sounds Like: Goo Goo Dolls Technical Grade: 9 Production/Musicianship Grade: 9 Commercial Value: 9 Overall Talent Level: 8 Songwriting Skills: 8 Performance Skill: 8 Best Songs: Beautiful, Yesterday, One Thing Or Another Weakness: ? CD Review: Wind isn't the only thing blowing in Chicago...Escape from Earth sent in this 5 song EP which from just one listen, sounds like a band about to blow up!
Because all of the songs on this EP are so well written and produced, it was tough to pick the best commercial song out of the line-up, but ultimately, it came down to the one song that haunted me the most, and that was "Beautiful," which has a strong hook that is fun to sing. It's lyrically potent and has the kind of melodic chorus (see the 6 rules for commercial music success) that makes you anxious for it to return.
The performances on this project are electrifying and captivating and eloquently illustrate why they are a musical force to be reckoned with. Their roster of songs, though they only have 5, is one of the strongest that I've heard. They've managed to define their identity while showing all the colors on their creative rainbows as on the Mudvaynish, "Never Hear," which will leave you tired after hearing the amount of energy they spend to entertain you.
This band has collective chemistry and the mysterious, often elusive "X Factor." Their dedication and commitment are obvious and their chances of succeeding are real...people will soon be flocking to Escape From Earth.
Advice: Keep it up! It's just a matter of time.
