Artist: Band: Blue Background Album: “Paperbacks & Photographs” CD Review:
The group at first glance made me immediately think of Fleetwood Mac. There is a boy-girl-boy-girl thing going on and writing mostly by committee. The vibe is also mostly female singing and the harmonies are quite nice.
As musicians on their instruments and arrangers they have done a really good job. As lyricists the team has some life experience to acquire and a ways to go to compel others. Their expressions are most definitely sincere but they're just more appealing to young adults than the world at large.
Hey, I admit it. My first CD was 90% songs about the same breakup with the same guy. I can relate. Lots of people can relate. But not everyone wanted to hear me sing 9 times about the same subject.
“Paperbacks & Photographs” sounds great throughout regarding the loops, harmonies and the solid production values. There are some strong songs on here like “All I Want”.
These four have definite talent and if their only flaw is that they are young, then I really look forward to hearing them as they mature lyrically. If you know a young teen/adult hipster looking for their generation’s answer to Fleetwood Mac, they will LOVE you for giving them this CD.
