By Ben Ohmart - 10/20/2003 - 04:49 PM EDT
Artist: The Pedrick
Album: Hutson Guitar Duo - Environs
CD Review:
Anyone into classical guitar will be suitably impressed with the following:
1. Fantaisie 2. Allemande 3. Courante 4. Sarabande 5. Burlesca 6. Scherzo 7. Gigue 8. Bagatelle No. 2 9. Bagatelle No. 4 10. Bagatelle No. 6 11. Waltz No. 1 12. Waltz No. 4 13. Waltz No. 5 14. Waltz No. 6 15. River Rising 16. Materna (In Memoriam) 17. Shannnon 18. Dublin 19. Avoca 20. Kells 21. Waterford 22. Galway
These are pieces from J.S. Bach, Johannes Brahms, Beethoven, Thomas Smith, and one set of the nimble fingers, David Pedrick, who is only 30 years old this year (2003). Damn him!! Well, he was probably playing at age 2, so it’s too late for jealousy.
The duo formed in 1998, and has performed everywhere: the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society Festival, The Philadelphia Fringe Festival, The Lancaster Summer Arts Festival, concerts at the Delaware Center for the Performing Arts, The Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, and the Johns Hopkins University Midday Concert Series.
As you might expect, the playing is expert, tight and thoroughly entertaining thought music. They perform as one person, which is the best compliment you can give a double act. Listen to the samples at their site. Then buy, buy, buy.
