CD REVIEW: Tricia Greenwood – No Fear in Love
By Ben Ohmart - 09/09/2003 - 02:52 PM EDT

Artist: Tricia Greenwood
Album: No Fear in Love
CD Review: Getting a lot of cds weekly to review, it ain’t always the genre or packaging that makes me pick up one over another. For Tricia it was her sense of humanity. I remembered her previous cd, one about 9/11, after I saw her name, and of course her latest release, No Fear in Love, stems from the same sense of duty. Not just the fact that the release date is set for 9/11, not just that she’ll be performing that night to give a little hope and remembrance to the evil and unnecessary loss of life that occurred then, but because a percentage of profits from this cd go to the Salvation Army. If we had more Greenwoods and fewer Bushes, the world would be a better, brighter place in which to live.

But as for the music, it is at times beautiful stuff, pitched simply with voice and acoustic guitar. Call it folk if you like, but the lyrical content is more akin to love songs, like an old Paul McCartney album from a female perspective. Catchy hooks and melodies that stay with you, because of their laid-back urgency for emotional attachment. Her voice – the sound and the style – is an original you’ll want to take with you, on foot, in car, to wherever and however.
