CD REVIEW: Sacambaya de Bolivia – En El Alma De Los Andes
By Ben Ohmart - 06/29/2003 - 01:56 AM EDT
Artist: Sacambaya de Bolivia
Album: En El Alma De Los Andes
CD Review:
Perhaps what you hear is not the first thing you think of when someone mentions the word BOLIVIA. But wherever this Andean folklore music stems from, the panpipes, flutes and other traditional instruments (of Bolivia) are a joy to behold on this hour’s worth of ancient-type instrumentals.
A touch of bass and percussion rounds out the sound, along with a superb recording, to envelope you fully in a bygone age. The 11 tunes here are so captivating that you will, like I have, play the cd for several days without getting tired of it or even finding an annoying repetition. The lite instrumentation and frivolity will take care of that.
It’s yet another winning release from Arc Music, my #1 favorite world music label. If they have ever failed, I’ve not heard it. They have the courage to take on the world, record every corner, and play it back for the rest of the earth. Magic time.
