Artist: Beth Champion Mason Album: “All I Have” CD Review:
When I got to this CD in my stack, I saw a cover of a very feminine woman at a beach, then opened to see that by first glance at the credits this was definitely going to be a Christian CD. I am embarrassed to admit I quickly formed an opinion about what I was going to hear. I was fearing 10 slow super sweet ballads.
I was completely happily wrong! I was smiling as soon as I heard chunky guitars and lots of rock energy on the first song. There is some really good energy and guitar work on the CD, especially on that first track, “I Am Your Child” and on “Good Enough”. Yes there are some lovely sweet ballads, but I appreciate the variation provided by balancing that with higher energy songs.
Champion Mason is also versatile vocally. One minute she’s power and growl and passion, the next she can sweetly waft a lovely soprano.
There are messages in each song about her spiritual beliefs and experiences, some of them listing biblical passages below the titles. Although not everyone may connect with her personal expression in the lyrics, these are well written songs performed with quality players and production.
