Artist: Band: C’est Mortel CD Review:
This cd was almost passed over. If it weren’t for the fact that the track list has only 2 titles:
Your Misfortune Is Our Mirth Magnum Opus
and that yours truly is a huge prog-rock head, there’d be no review of this instrumental rock epic that stretches on for 72 minutes!
Devin Brown - guitar, vocals Mason Brown - guitar Brett Griffin - bass Tom Naumann - drums David Specht - keyboards
do a great job with loud rock that builds accordingly (that’s why they call it progressive). It ain’t Yes or Genesis – it’s the new wave of push all the buttons god gave you and make those instruments Work. Sometimes they bring in sound effects (or perhaps they’re just beeps and jackhammers configured on the synth, who knows), but like all true experimental rock: it never ever gets Near the county of Boring.
C’est Mortel have only been together since 2000. This is their first cd and please god, don’t let it be their last.
