CD REVIEW: Bruce & Lisa - Gifts of Love
By Ben Ohmart - 10/28/2002 - 12:48 PM EST

Artist: Band: Bruce & Lisa
Album: Gifts of Love
CD Review: Why call a cd Gifts of Love? Well, maybe Bruce and Lisa have something wholly positive to share. Sure sounds like it. Lisa LaCross is a flutist who has performed in Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and La Scala Opera House. Bruce Wethey was a violinist in the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra, and has played with the likes of Natalie Cole, Ray Charles, Ricky Martin and the Florida Philharmonic. Together they assert themselves into the front of some very fine instrumental easy listening/pop music. Perhaps it is even a shade new age because of the way it seeks to relieve the tension in your shoulders and show the sun, not the gothic.

‘We want to remind people,’ says Lisa, ‘how important it is – love for each other, for our children, for our families, and for God. At our concerts people say they see us romancing each other onstage. During our concerts we talk about our life’s joys and struggles, and the audiences seem to connect with our openness and vulnerability.’

Backed by piano, guitar, bass and drums, Bruce, Lisa and others achieve exactly what they’re looking for – peace. Smiles. But it’s hard to believe this is a 50 minute cd. I’ve listened to it 4 times this morning and surely it’s not 4 hours later!
