CD Review: Well isn't this a lovely listen. A fine, fine debut by this Vancouver singer/songwriter. Bishop has a gorgeous voice, which plays storyteller through 10 very interesting songs. Boy does she know how to write a hook too. The celtic influence is heard on the first song "Blushing Bride" - the very first lyric being "Damned if she does and she's damned if she doesn't walk down the aisle this day." Well alrighty then. The arrangements are simply gorgeous, including players from K.D. Lang, Jann Arden, The Moody Blues and even Aerosmith. Did I mention there is even a voiceover of a priest on one of the songs? How's that for a variety? Since I'm on this big variety kick, she's also a certified log home builder.

Log home building inside, this CD gets stronger, more contemplative, more thoughtful throughout. Elements of celtic, some beautiful jazz moments, and traditional pop vocalizations complement the project throughout. She plays piano and shines on "Nothing Could Be Better", singing "This is hard to come by, when will we get home?" I can't say enough nice things about this. One gets the impression that Ms. Bishop loves what she does. You hear it in her voice, in her lyrics and throughout this record. I will put Katrina Bishop's CD in my top 10 albums for 2002. This is what writing songs and singing is all about. Buy this album. Ms. Bishop is gonna go real far. Catch the ride now and enjoy what you hear.
